In the mountain villages where Ernesto & Olga live there are no retirement communities or nursing homes. The closest nursing homes are in Saltillo, an hour away, and they cost $350 - $400 a month for basic care. The farmers in the mountain villages don’t have money to pay for that luxury. Typical income for a working farmer is just $60 a week, approximately $240 a month.
Although some of the elderly in the nearby villages are living with their families. That means that there are sometimes 8-10 people living in a small 2-room home with not enough food to feed the whole family. Some of them don’t have family to care for them and live alone, no longer able to earn money to pay for food and necessities. Most of the elders in the mountain villages do not know Christ. They do not have the hope of eternal life. Most are living without any hope at all, they are simply waiting to die.
Praise Valley Senior Home will give them hope. Opened in August 2010, it is an assisted living home that will provide a safe environment to live in. The seniors will be fed nutritious food, and have a caregiver to assist with basic needs. And most of all, they will be ministered to and taught about Jesus Christ.
You can help by giving a one time financial donation toward the ongoing needs of the Home, or by adopting these seniors and providing for part of their physical needs on a monthly basis. Please consider how your donation will impact the lives of the elderly in Mexico for eternity.
